September 23 kept The Rolling Stones busy, from sweaty European stages to peculiar studio experiments and albums assembled from wildly different moments. The date connects the band’s early London appearances with the frantic 1966 single Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?, major tours, the Love You Live album, and later guest appearances involving Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. There’s even an Andy Warhol cover getting Jagger’s personal pencil treatment, because apparently a normal album sleeve was asking too much. September 23, 1966: Release of the Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?/ Who’s Driving Your Plane? 7″ single (Decca F 12497)
Have You Seen Your Mother… features the band’s first horn section, arranged by Mike Leander, plus heavy guitar feedback and a deliberately unruly production. Its abstract lyrics leave their meaning open to interpretation rather than following a fixed narrative.
As for Who’s Driving Your Plane?, Mick Jagger’s lyrics portray a fragile, dependent partner struggling with control, manipulation, and frustration. Jagger mocks their upbringing, questions who actually controls their life, and uses the image of a plane to explore autonomy. He also takes aim at fashionable social circles that offer plenty of style but little concern.

The Love You Live double-album draws its performances from the 1975 Tour of the Americas, the 1976 Tour of Europe, and the secret club gig at Toronto’s El Mocambo in March 1977, giving it a rather unconventional road map. It also marks the band’s first official live release featuring Ronnie Wood on guitar. The artwork adds another layer, with an Andy Warhol cover painting decorated by pencil marks scrawled by Mick Jagger.

The album brings Perry together with English multi-instrumentalist and producer Steve Marshall, also known as John Saxon, continuing Perry’s run of collaborative projects. Instead of conventional vocals, Perry offers rough, stream-of-consciousness passages, strange non-sequiturs, and abstract spiritual poetry, giving the record a distinctly unconventional and unpredictable character.

September 23, 2014: Release of Jimmy McIntosh’s CD Jimmy McIntosh And…, with Ronnie as guest on three tracks: 1. Slow Blues/ 2. I Gotta See/ 3. Fast Blues
Jimmy McIntosh And… is a genre-blending showcase of blues, funk, fusion and rock, built around collaborative playing. Ronnie Wood, John Scofield and Mike Stern are among the notable guests, while Ivan Neville and others add further texture. The album balances sophisticated musicianship with varied arrangements without losing McIntosh’s distinctive guitar voice.
