When Aftermath hit the shelves in England it marked a big moment for the band. For the first time, every track on the album was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, showing just how far they’d come as songwriters. Gone were the days of relying on covers—Aftermath was pure Stones from start to finish. This album also showed how much Brian Jones was experimenting. He played all kinds of instruments—like sitar, dulcimer, and marimba—which gave songs like Paint It Black and Under My Thumb a unique edge that stood out from anything else at the time. The band was clearly moving beyond just blues and rock ‘n’ roll—they were pushing boundaries and playing with new sounds.

Clocking in at over 50 minutes, it was also one of the longest rock albums released up to that point. Tracks like Out of Time, Lady Jane and Stupid Girl showed the band’s growing confidence and versatility. Aftermath wasn’t just another album—it was the Stones proving they were here to stay, not just riding the British Invasion wave. It was bold, it was different, and it set the stage for what came next.
