August 21 has a habit of sneaking major Rolling Stones moments into the calendar. From Ronnie Wood quietly turning up on a Gary Osborne single to the chaotic scale of Knebworth 1976, this date covers plenty of Stones history without politely staying in one era. There’s Mick Taylor exploring blues-rock, Mixed Emotions arriving as the Jagger-Richards peace offering nobody could quite ignore, and the A Bigger Bang Tour roaring into Boston in 2005. Then came London’s O2 homecoming in 2007, proving the Stones still knew how to make a hometown appearance feel like an event. Oh, and Ronnie Wood had another book to add to the shelf.

August 21, 1989: Release of the Mixed Emotions CD-single, feat. three tracks: 1. Mixed Emotions (Edit)/ 2. Mixed Emotions (Chris Kimsey’s 12” Remix)/ 3. Fancy Man Blues
Mixed Emotions was the lead single from the Steel Wheels album, turning Mick Jagger and Keith Richards’ turbulent relationship into a hard-rocking anthem of reconciliation. The song also became their final major US Top 10 hit, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Album Rock Tracks chart.

August 20, 1996: Release of the Mick Taylor Featuring Sasha‘s CD Shadow Man
Shadow Man is a collaborative double-disc album credited to Mick Taylor and singer-producer Sasha Gracanin. The release combines contemporary blues-rock and R&B-influenced studio recordings, featuring Gracanin’s vocals and Taylor’s distinctive slide and lead guitar, with a second disc devoted to live performances, including a 1995 set recorded at the 14 Below in Santa Monica with the Hollywood Blues Kings
