August 30, 2000: Death of Bert Richards, Keith’s father, at age 85. Later on eith Richards did claim to have snorted his father’s ashes mixed with cocaine. In an April 2007 interview with NME, he described the act as a spontaneous decision after some of his father’s cremated remains spilled onto a table. He reportedly said, “I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared… It went down pretty well, and I’m still alive.” Richards himself later suggested that the anecdote was exaggerated, stating that he had, in fact, snorted only a small amount of his father’s ashes without any cocaine. He also mentioned that he had buried most of the ashes under an oak tree.
