Today in Rolling Stones history: February 10
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
February 10 threads together the Rolling Stones’ entire arc—from scrappy two-show grinds to moments when rock history quietly reshaped itself behind closed doors. On this date they conquered theatres in England and Australia, hovered at the edges of Beatles mythology during A Day in the Life, and later retreated into Olympic Studios as Let It Bleed hardened into something darker and final. Add Bill Wyman’s shelved dream archive and a roaring return to Argentina decades later, and February 10 feels like a Stones crossroad: ambition, influence, loss, and endurance colliding in one relentless timeline.
February 10, 1964: Odeon Theatre, Cheltenham, England (2 shows)
Feb. 10, 1965: Palais Theatre, St. Kilda, Australia (2 shows)

Feb. 10, 1967: Mick and Keith attend the orchestra overdubs on the Beatles’ song A Day in the Life at EMI Studios in London. A Day in the Life is a masterpiece from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album A haunting blend of John Lennon‘s dreamy verses and Paul McCartney‘s upbeat middle section, it’s pure magic. The orchestral crescendos add to its surreal, almost cinematic feel. Lennon’s melancholic lyrics, inspired by real events, contrast with McCartney’s everyday observations, making it one of The Beatles’ most iconic tracks.
February 10-28, 1969: The Stones resume recording sessions for Let It Bleed at Olympic Sound Studios in London, mainly without Brian Jones, whose growing absence signals the quiet unravelling of the band’s original chemistry. As the group presses on, the music turns leaner, darker, and more urgent. These sessions capture a pivotal moment: a band shedding its past, tightening its focus, and forging a tougher sound amid tension, uncertainty, and irreversible change behind the scenes.

Feb. 10, 1974: Using the Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Unit, Bill Wyman starts working on a new Stones compilation album to be called The Black Box and featuring all unreleased studio tracks, but the project ended up being shelved later in favour of the Metamorphosis album. At the time Bill’s original picks for the planned record were:
Bright Lights Big City/Cops and Robbers/I’d Much Rather Be With The Boys/Little Red Rooster (Live)/Down The Road Apiece (Live)/Don’t Lie To Me/If You Let Me/Godzi/Panama Powder Room/Gold Painted Nails/Fannie Mae/Down In The Bottom
