July 20, 1986: Release of Mick Jagger’s 7″ single Ruthless People / I’m Ringing (first song from the Ruthless People movie soundtrack)
Ruthless People is a very punchy slice of mid-’80s pop-rock that finds Mick Jagger embracing a slicker, radio-friendly sound without completely abandoning his swagger. Co-written with Daryl Hall and Dave Stewart, the song perfectly matches the film’s mischievous spirit, even if it lacks the bite of Jagger’s strongest solo material.
