From a scrappy UK live EP in 1965 to stadium-shaking tours and late-career arena dominance, June 11 reads like a highlight reel of The Rolling Stones’ restlessness. The Rolling Stones didn’t treat history as something to look back on—they kept rewriting it, whether through chaotic early recordings, courtroom drama involving Brian Jones, or explosive shows in Los Angeles, Boston, Barcelona, Munich, Copenhagen, and Wembley. Even Keith Richards’ rare 1986 TV appearance fits the pattern: never fully contained, always slightly unpredictable. Different decades, same attitude—loud, loose, and impossible to pin down. And somehow, it all happened on the same date.

This release should not be confused with the more widely known 1966 U.S. LP Got Live if You Want It!, the Stones first live album. This one is a five-track live EP issued in the UK in June 1965, recorded earlier in March 1965, and never released in the United States. Three songs—Route 66, I’m Alright and I’m Moving On—later appeared on US albums that same year. Collectors are mainly interested because Pain in My Heart and a short excerpt of Everybody Needs Somebody to Love were never officially issued in America. The set also includes the crowd chant We Want the Stones credited to the band under the Nanker-Phelge pseudonym. Despite rough recording quality performances capture especially on I’m Moving On and I’m Alright.

June 11, 1968: Brian Jones appears again at the Inner London Sessions court and opts for a trial by jury, before later flying to Málaga, Spain with girlfriend Suki Poitier.

On the same day, in Memphis, Ronnie Wood joins Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis to shoot the video for the song Memphis Gave Birth To Rock’n Roll (although Ronnie doesn’t play at all in the song)
