Today in Rolling Stones history: May 29
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
May 29 has a habit of showing just how many different lives The Rolling Stones managed to pack into one career. On this date, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and company bounced between intimate club stages, marathon concert schedules, stadium-sized audiences and headline-grabbing personal drama. One day they were proving that rock bands could survive relentless touring; another, they were sharing the spotlight with unexpected guests while their all-time classic hits kept evolving in front of new generations. For a band supposedly past its peak every decade, they certainly never got the memo.

May 29, 1978: On the grounds of irreconciliable differences Bianca Jagger files for divorce from Mick. The high-profile couple, who had married in 1971, had long been the subject of media attention due to their glamorous lifestyle and the Rolling Stones’ growing fame. Rumors of infidelity and growing personal and professional differences had surrounded their relationship for years. Bianca, a Nicaraguan socialite, and later a human rights advocate, eventually chose to end the marriage after seven years. Despite the split, the two have remained publicly respectful of each other, and Bianca has continued her independent path.
