Nov. 14, 1984: Release of the Video Rewind – The Rolling Stones Great Video Hits home-video
Video Rewind ends where it begins: with Bill Wyman jolted awake backstage by Mick Jagger—MBE pinned proudly to his jacket, mysteriously acquired during his surreal museum adventure. Moments earlier, Wyman had been dragged off by actual guards after a romp through a secret “Ancient Antiquities” vault filled with rock relics and Rolling Stones easter eggs.
Before the chaos, he’d unearthed Jagger himself—frozen in a 1973 stage outfit—by casually whipping a cloth off an exhibit. The revived pair then “played” classic Stones videos on everything from a microwave to Wyman’s retro-futuristic computer, tossing dry jokes as they wandered through the absurd archive. All this unfolds inside Julien Temple’s framing story, which transforms a simple compilation of 1972–1984 clips into a quirky mini-movie. Wyman, dressed as a museum guard and armed with an American Express Gold Card, sneaks through the British Museum, discovering memorabilia and wisecracking his way to each video cue.
