October 25 is proof that The Rolling Stones never needed to follow a conventional career plan. In 1964, they brought their blues-soaked attitude to American television, courtesy of Ed Sullivan, and began turning curious viewers into devoted fans. A decade later, they tackled Motown with Ain’t Too Proud to Beg while unleashing the party-ready Dance Little Sister. Keith Richards also stepped outside the Stones’ usual orbit to play some Chuck Berry with Rockpile in New York. Add Mick Jagger’s solo soundtrack work and decades of stadium performances, and this date delivers everything from unexpected collaborations to rock ’n’ roll history.

October 25, 1963: Gaumont Theatre, Taunton, England (2 shows)

October 25, 1964: The Stones make their American television debut on the iconic Ed Sullivan Show introducing themselves to millions of U.S. viewers with performances of Around and Around and Time Is on My Side. The appearance marks a major step in the band’s growing American conquest, bringing their raw energy and blues-rooted sound into living rooms across the country. Sharing the stage with one of America’s most popular television hosts, the young Stones begin turning their rising popularity into a nationwide phenomenon.

October 25, 1974: Release of the Ain’t Too Proud to Beg / Dance Little Sister 7″ single in the US (Rolling Stones Records RS-19302)
Originally recorded by The Temptations in 1966, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg received a gritty Rolling Stones makeover for the It’s Only Rock ’n Roll album. Keith Richards’ distorted guitar reshaped the Motown classic, while Mick Jagger delivered its desperate romantic plea with characteristic swagger.
As for Dance Little Sister, it captures an all-night party fueled by relentless rhythms and wild dancing. Inspired partly by Mick and Bianca Jagger’s Trinidad experiences, it combines Keith Richards’ driving guitar, Mick Taylor’s fiery leads, Charlie Watts’ pounding drums, and Ian Stewart’s rollicking piano.

October 25, 1978: Keith Richards plays Chuck Berry’s Let It Rock onstage with Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe’s Rockpile at The Bottom Line, New York City. The song was later aired on US King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show.
