October 7 is the kind of date that makes The Rolling Stones’ calendar look slightly ridiculous—in the best possible way. From two shows in Newcastle in 1965 to Copenhagen, Essen, San Diego and Ames, the band kept finding stages and reasons to turn up the volume. Then there’s Bill Wyman, quietly doing his own thing with the Rhythm Kings in 2005, before the Stones returned to California for Desert Trip in 2016. Different decades, different lineups, same date—and apparently no interest whatsoever in taking October 7 off. Rock history has never been especially good at holidays.

Wyman takes a more understated role, holding down the low end while his 12-piece, ever-changing all-star collective delivers a 73-minute crowd-pleaser. The music draws on vintage blues, R&B, jump-band boogie, swing, and early rock ’n’ roll, creating a lively roots-driven set. Shared lead vocals come from Albert Lee, Andy Fairweather Low, Beverley Skeete and Mike Sanchez, with Graham Broad on drums and Terry Taylor on guitar.
