August 15 has a surprisingly busy place in Rolling Stones history, jumping from sweaty early club dates to enormous stadiums and wildly different eras of the band. In 1963, the Stones are still hammering out raw rhythm and blues at Margate’s Dreamland Ballroom, years before stadiums become their playground. By 1994 and 1995, the Voodoo Lounge Tour takes them through East Rutherford and Leipzig with setlists packed with deep cuts, fan favorites, and the occasional surprise. Rotterdam gets its turn in 2003 during the Licks Tour, while Hamburg hosts the Stones in 2007 on the A Bigger Bang Tour. And then there’s 2011, when Mick Jagger goes completely off-road with SuperHeavy and Miracle Worker, joining forces with Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman. Because apparently one musical universe wasn’t enough.

August 15, 1963: The Rolling Stones play the Dreamland Ballroom in Margate, England, delivering their raw rhythm and blues sound during their rapidly rising early years.

August 15, 1994: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey (Voodoo Lounge Tour, US leg), sees the Stones deliver another electrifying performance.

In 2011 the always restless Mick Jagger put together the SuperHeavy project with Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman. They mixed rock, reggae, soul, and Indian sounds into one album. It was a wild experiment, full of energy and unusual fusions, proving Jagger never gets bored.
