Today in Rolling Stones history: June 3
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
June 3 proves that when it comes to The Rolling Stones, an ordinary day is apparently not an option. In a single date across the decades, you’ll find surprise club appearances, stadium-shaking concerts, visits to Jerusalem, and even an orchestral experiment built around songs like The Last Time that sounded far more ambitious than anyone expected. From Andrew Loog Oldham turning Stones classics into sweeping symphonic pieces to Mick Jagger popping up alongside George Thorogood, this chapter of Rolling Stones chronology is packed with twists, unlikely collaborations, and enough rock-and-roll history to make most bands jealous.

When Andrew Loog Oldham released this orchestral reinterpretation of Rolling Stones songs, it seemed like an unlikely project for a band known for challenging convention. Yet for Oldham, whose early musical tastes leaned toward lush orchestral arrangements and film soundtracks, it was the realization of a personal ambition. Influenced by Phil Spector’s wall of sound and Jack Nitzsche’s The Lonely Surfer, he crafted an album that blended sweeping strings with the grit of top session musicians. Far more than a novelty, the result remains a surprisingly powerful and rewarding listen.
