March 5 has proven legendary in Rolling Stones history, marking unforgettable performances and releases across decades. From the early 1964 double shows at Blackburn’s Odeon Theatre to Manchester’s 1971 Free Trade Hall gigs, the band consistently electrified audiences. The secretive 1977 El Mocambo shows in Toronto, remain iconic, with rare tracks later immortalized on Love You Live and the 2022 El Mocambo ’77 release. Bill Wyman’s solo single in 1982, plus massive concerts in Ft. Lauderdale (1999) and Brisbane (2003), highlight the band’s unstoppable energy and evolution. March 5 is pure Stones magic.

In March 1977, The Rolling Stones performed two secret shows at Toronto’s El Mocambo club, delivering one of their most iconic live sets. Held on March 4 and 5, the band played under the alias ‘The Cockroaches’ to maintain secrecy. Fans arrived expecting to see Canadian group April Wine but were surprised with an intimate, high-energy performance by the Stones.
Recordings from these shows later appeared on the double album Love You Live (1977, side 3), showcasing the band’s raw, blues-infused sound. The setlist featured rare tracks like Melody, Worried About You and Luxury, which remained unreleased in full until May 2022 as part of the El Mocambo ’77 live album.
