Today in Rolling Stones history: May 15
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
For The Rolling Stones May 15 wasn’t just another date on the calendar — it became a strangely reliable hotspot for chaos, reinvention, and loud guitars. From early club gigs and television mime-fests to the explosive arrival of Jumpin’ Jack Flash, the day repeatedly captured the band shifting gears while everyone else tried to keep up. Add young Ron Wood finding his footing with The Birds, plus later detours involving Bill Wyman, Mick Taylor, and hard rock side adventures, and suddenly rock history starts looking suspiciously overbooked.

May 15, 1964: Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, England (2 shows)

May 15, 1964: Ronnie Wood performs his first concert with the newly renamed The Birds in West Drayton, Hillingdon, marking an important early step in his rise through the British rock scene. No longer limited to local performances around their home territory, the group had begun expanding across England, building a reputation for their energetic rhythm & blues sound and giving the young Wood valuable experience on the live circuit.

May 15, 1965: Hollywood A Go-Go (ABC, US TV)
Oh Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin’)/ Interview with Mick and Brian/ Play With Fire/ The Last Time
Hollywood A Go Go (broadcast from KHJ-TV in Los Angeles, California) was a syndicated music variety show that aired from 1965 to 1966. Hosted by Sam Riddle, it featured live music from the house band, The Sinners, and energetic performances by the Gazzarri Dancers. All songs were mimed, and Mick was especially animated, often playing to the camera.

May 15, 1968: The Stones gather at their Maddox Street office in London for a widely discussed press conference centered around the launch of their upcoming single Jumpin’ Jack Flash. The event helped build anticipation for the track, which signaled a powerful return to the band’s tougher, blues-driven sound after a period of psychedelic experimentation, quickly becoming one of their defining late-1960s releases.

May 15, 1976: Granby Hall, Leicester, England

May 15, 2000: Release of The Rhythm Kings‘ CD Groovin’
Bill Wyman’s third rhythm & blues adventure feels less like a polished studio project and more like a late-night jam between seasoned rock veterans who simply love playing together. Backed by an ever-changing cast including Georgie Fame, Gary Brooker, Albert Lee and Mick Taylor the album jumps between blues, jazz, and rock’n’roll with effortless class. While the rotating lineup creates some uneven moments, tracks like Tell You A Secret and Hole In The Wall shine brilliantly, proving musical chemistry matters far more than chart positions.

May 15, 2007: Release of the Hollywood Roses‘ CD Dopesnake, with Mick Taylor as guest on one song: Jailbreak
Tribute bands rarely escape the shadow of the artists they worship, but the Hollywood Roses managed to turn admiration into something genuinely explosive. This album blends sleazy, riff-heavy originals with roaring covers, capturing the reckless spirit of early Guns N’ Roses without feeling like karaoke night at the local bar. Guest appearances from Gilby Clarke, Tracii Guns, and Mick Taylor add extra firepower to a record that proudly keeps old-school hard rock alive.

May 15, 2012: Ronnie Wood attends Heather Kerzner’s Marie Curie cancer care fundraiser gala at Claridge’s, in London, joining an evening dedicated to raising support for cancer patients and palliative care services. During the event, Wood took to the stage alongside Sam Moore for spirited performances of the classic songs Mustang Sally and Stay With Me, adding a lively rock-and-soul atmosphere to the charity celebration.
