HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL WYMAN!

1978: At the New Court House in Toronto, the judge sentences Keith to a one-year probation, continue his heroin addiction treatment and also to hold a benefit performance for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind within 6 months, which was inspired by the presence at the trial of Rita Bédard, a blind teenage fan from Montreal. The Crown appeals the sentence, demanding incarceration.
Keith Richards, on his sentence: “I feel very good about it obviously, you know. I think it’s fair. Slightly strange. I mean, why not? It gives me a chance to carry on with what I’ve been doing for the past 18 months, which is kicking the habit, etc. I don’t think it was Canada’s fault or that it had anything to do with it. It could’ve happened anywhere. Mind you, you should do something about those Mounties (laughs)”
