Today in Rolling Stones history: June 17
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
June 17 has a funny habit of turning up wherever The Rolling Stones left fingerprints on rock history, like the universe quietly replaying its favorite band on shuffle. From early American gigs to stadium-sized chaos and unexpected studio detours, the date reads like a greatest-hits montage with better hair. Somewhere in the mix sits Jumpin’ Jack Flash, proving again that understatement was never really their thing. Even when they weren’t officially the main act, their orbit kept bending the story anyway. Call it coincidence if you want, but rock history seems to disagree rather loudly almost across decades without exception.
June 17, 1964: Danceland, West View Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (The Rolling Stones 1st American Tour 1964)

June 17, 1965: Capitol Theatre, Aberdeen, Scotland, 2 shows (Scottish Tour)

June 17, 1966: Release of Chris Farlowe‘s 7″ single Out of Time / Baby Make It Soon, with Mick Jagger on backing vocals on side A
Recorded by Mick in June 1966 as a guide vocal for Farlowe, Out of Time evolved far beyond a simple demo. Produced with Andrew Loog Oldham and arranged by Art Greenslade, it embraced Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound style. Jagger’s sharp, cynical lyrics contrasted with the lush pop arrangement, creating a distinctive and influential recording later released by The Rolling Stones themselves.
June 17-18, 1967: Brian Jones attends the Monterey International Pop Festival at the Monterey County Fairground, Monterey, California, USA. Brian stood out as a psychedelic icon rather than a mere guest. Amid the festival’s free-spirited atmosphere, he famously introduced The Jimi Hendrix Experience, praising Jimi Hendrix with remarkable enthusiasm. The moment now seems like one groundbreaking musical movement passing the torch to another before late-1960s rock excess reached full speed.
